GOING TO THE GYNECOLOGIST
I am 23 years old and a virgin. I have put off going to the gynecologist longer than I had anticipated. In the past I have somewhat attempted to break my hymen..but I chicken out because it hurts and feels kind of tough..unless Im just thinking this.
Anyways..I think Im finally going to the gyneocologist but Im really scared as to how they will deal with this. I know it may not be totally necessary to go to they gynecologist if you are a virgin..but since Im older and also having some symptoms of a possible yeast infection or something I think its time to go. Has anyone here dealt with going to the doctor with their hymen still intached? I am wonderng what kind of procedure they use etc or how bad it is. Any comments? Thanks :)

I went and go to the gyno as a someone without the hymen broken. I won't get too graphic but make sure to tell them you haven't had any sexual partners. They'll make sure to use a smaller probe to get your pap smear with than they would for someone who had sexual partners in their past just to make sure they don't tear your hymen.
The only other advice I can give is try to be as relaxed as possible and it'll be hard to do. If you aren't relaxed, it will just hurt worse...but if you'll relax as best you can, it doesn't hurt bad at all. And age wise, even as a virgin you're still smart to start going to a gyno especially if you feel like you might have a yeast infection.

GOING TO THE GYNECOLOGIST
Dear Virgin2005,
I also went to the gyno for the first time as a virgin. I was 19 years old and my mother thought it was time I had a pelvic exam. I explained to the nurse that I was not, and had not been, sexually active. Actually, nothing had ever been "in there" before (no tampons, no fingers). The nurse was a wonderful, sweet lady and she told me that girls come in all the time for exams as virgins and the doctor is very, very gentle with them.
I put on the gown and sat up on the table. The doctor came in and did a traditional breast exam on me. I was a little embarrassed “dropping my top” in front of a man (even though he was a doctor. He then told me to lie down and he guided my feet into the stirrups. Now I was mortified. The doctor examined the outside of my vagina and commented that my hymen was intact and particularly closed / thick. He told me that my first time is likely to be difficult. He then went into a lengthy explanation of how I might want to consider using vaginal dilators before my first time to stretch my hymen some. He did not use a speculum on me but he did insert two fingers into my vagina and do an internal exam. It hurt quite a bit. I had a little spotting afterward and the nurse suggested I use a pad for the rest of the day.

gyn
they should ask you if you have had intercousre, I would suggest that you just get a pap the first time, thats what I had to have done before going on the pill and im 20 and still a virgin. its really not as bad as I thought it would be/ though I haven't had a pelvic. just talk to your doctor about all your concerns she will be able to answer all those scary questions

FYI
I do not mean to come off as biased or sexist but I would recommend that virgins visit FEMALE doctors. I don't feel that a man can truly understand a female's body during this CRITICAL time period. Now, about the EXAMINATION...mine was great! I simply told the doctor that I was a virgin, and I told her to use a pediatric speculum. The only thing I felt was a bit of pressure. I had no pain and no tearing. She was able to check my ovaries using the pediatric speculum, and she performed my pap smear with no problem. :)

Virgin GYNO exam
First let me commend you for being a virgin at 19 years but I'm sorry to have to tell you that I am almost 100 percent sure that the reason the doctor did not use a speculum during your examination what because he wanted to have the pleasure of sticking his fingers into your virgin vagina. Also he did pop your cherry because you bled after he stuck his fingers inside you. Remember he's a man and even if he pretends to be respectful during the examination he can get away with things because you won't be able to tell what's normal or not.
